♡ Featuring our first guest blogger, Madeleine of Good Vibrations with a DIY Hair Mask. ♡

Hello everyone! I’m so excited to be guest posting today on this wonderful blog! Today I’m going to let you in on a couple of secrets I have for keeping my hair super soft. My hair is challenging, since the ends can easily dry out and it is also affected by frizz quite often. To combat this, my favorite thing to do is follow my tried-and-true coconut oil and honey hair mask recipe!

To complete this recipe, you will need coconut oil, honey (I use local raw honey), a cup and spoon to mix and contain your mixture, and a measuring tablespoon. You may also want a towel or old shirt to protect your nice clothes, and a hair tie.

1) First, I advise rinsing your hair thoroughly to wet it, since the mask is more easily applied to wet hair than dry.

2) Take a tablespoon of coconut oil and a tablespoon of honey. Put them in the cup together and stir with a spoon. Some people heat the mixture in the microwave for few seconds, but I like room-temperature consistency, it’s easier to apply to the hair.

Note: If you have especially long or especially thick hair, you may want to make slightly more, using 2 tablespoons of each ingredient.

3) Once you have stirred, you should get a mixture that looks like the photo provided. Mmmm. Now, put on an old shirt or tuck a towel over your shoulders, stand over the sink, since spills may occur, and apply the mixture evenly throughout your hair.

4) Now, simply wait 40 minutes! I use this time to do some reading!

5) After 40 minutes have passed, get in the shower and rinse out the mask. I apply shampoo twice, concentrating on my roots, to make sure I get it all out. Otherwise your hair will be oily and gross when dry. I then apply conditioner regularly.

6) Once your hair dries, you may notice that it is silky smooth. Success!

It’s been recommended that one should do this hair mask between every three times you wash your hair, but personally I don’t have time for that. I just do it once every now and then, and it works great.

A few other things I do to ensure the silkiness of my hair include using copious amounts of conditioner and hair oil. I’m not particular about what conditioner I use, but what I do is apply it from mid-shaft to ends before shampooing. Then I apply shampoo to my roots. This way the shampoo cannot dry out the other parts of my hair. After shampooing, I cover my whole head in conditioner, from scalp to ends, and let it soak in for a few minutes before rinsing. Additionally, once I get out of the shower, I put a penny-sized blob of hair oil into each side of my hair. I’m using some Moroccan oil right now, but coconut oil is also an option.

Hopefully my tips help you get soft and silky!

 Thanks again to Dulce!
