How To: Lighten Fabric

Originally this was a dress, but I decided to convert it to a skirt to make it more versatile. Also didn't like the pleated neckline much either, so you know: ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

** Proceed to a well ventilated area and wear gloves for safety. Be cautious not to drip or splash yourself or nearby cloths and fabrics to prevent unwanted bleach stains. **

Next I covered the fabric entirely with hot to mild water (approximately 1 gallon) and let it soak in the kitchen sink. Then diluted bleach (
about 2/3 cupsby poured it along and let it sit. Every 3-5 minutes I continually stirred and turned the fabric over to prevent any blotching in order to ensure an even turnout. It took just under 20 minutes to lighten all that it did. So once it was ready I rinsed and ringed it out with plenty of water at room temperature. Last thing was a final rinse in the washer with a small amount of detergent and fabric softener.

Note: Fabric is cotton. (I threw the tag out and don't remember if it's a cotton blend or 100%.) Recommend doing a patch test first, especially for any lightweight/delicate fabrics.
